Prior to moving to Retford in 2012, Joanne had worked as a Physiotherapist in the
NHS for 13 years (1999-
She graduated from The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen in 1999 with a 2:1 class honours degree. She continued working in Aberdeen as a junior Physiotherapist in a variety of different clinical areas, before moving into a senior role in South Wales in 2001.
Joanne specialised in Neurology in 2003 and worked primarily in the fields of Elderly Stroke Rehabilitation and Neurological Rehabilitation.
Specialising in Parkinson's Disease in 2009, Joanne was solely responsible for the provision of highly specialised Neurological Physiotherapy for clients with Parkinson's Disease in the South West Wales region.
In 2007 Joanne graduated from The University of Wales College of Medicine in Cardiff
with an MSc in Physiotherapy (Neurological Rehabilitation). Her research project
investigated The Effects of Functional Electrical Stimulation upon the Quality of
Gait for Stroke Patients with Drop-
Joanne is fully Bobath trained, and her core Neurological skills lie in the treatment of Stroke, Parkinson's Disease, Traumatic & Acquired Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis and Spasticity. Additional areas of expertise include the Rehabilitation of balance, gait (walking), falls and other general elderly ailments.
In addition to "traditional" Physiotherapy treatment approaches, Joanne's skills also include the use of Functional Electrical Stimulation, Pilates or Tai Chi as an adjunct to treatment, depending upon individual needs.

Joanne also owns and runs Pilates Clinic Retford, and she won the North Notts Business Awards 2014 for Excellence in Customer Service. She combines her passions and expertise in Neurological Physiotherapy and Pilates by presenting for the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI). This involves lecturing across the country, training Physiotherapists and other Health Professionals in Pilates for Neurological Conditions and Pilates for General Rehabilitation.
